Is it true that ballroom dancing will be part of the olympics as a sport?

if it is thats kinda wierd...i dont see the athleticism in that.

well, curling....Is it true that ballroom dancing will be part of the olympics as a sport?
Ballroom dancing (or DanceSport, as the International Olympic Committee calls it), has not been named as an Olympic sport, not yet. It does continuously get discussed as a possibility, though.

Originally, I didn't see the athleticism in it either, but when a family member got into it, and seeing shows like ';Dancing With the Stars,'; I now have NO doubt that it's a sport. Should it be an Olympic sport? That's up for debate, but similar things like figure skating are sports. If you get into it and watch enough of it, you'll see just how much athleticism really is required at the highest levels.

Actually, curling is quite a sport. In how many other sports does one have to haul 40-pound rocks multiple times, and practically throw them to a specific spot, with teammates needing to walk along ice to guide the shot? It looks bizarre, but after watching some matches, I actually want to try it some day. In a recent trip through western Canada and Alaska, residents were quite enthusiastic about it.

But yes, to answer your question, no DanceSport in the Olympics, not yet.

I'm still angry at the elimination of baseball and softball. For a bunch of consecutive Olympic years, the three baseball medalists came from three different continents, and they complain about baseball's lack of international appeal.

That said, many sports get named as the possible ';next'; one. DanceSport is one, then there are golf, bowling, rugby, and cricket. Even video-gaming is trying to drum up some support. Personally, I'd like to see bowling in there, but that's just my opinion. Is it true that ballroom dancing will be part of the olympics as a sport?
it will not be included as an Olympic sport in 2012 but there's a great possibility that it will be included as demostration sport since England, the host of 2012 Olympics enjoys a widespread popularity in this sport.

as for curling, even though i still cant appreciate this sport, is actually a winter Olympic sport. and it's a strategic, thinking sport.
Most people say it isn't a sport but I know it is or at least the European version is. My dad teaches it all over the place and used to go to a lot of Ballroom dances. You should see how much they sweat when they get off the floor. It's comparable to a man who's worked out all day and for them it's only a three minute song!

There's really two seperate versions...American style and European style.

The American style isn't even really ballroom dancing anymore because it's been catered to the Hollywood people the ones who like showy things (i.e. Dancing with the Stars).

The European style is actually a lot more structured and a lot more like a sport. It's also a lot more beautiful to watch without the choppiness of the little 'show' pieces being thrown in.
