Seals are hunted in the spring for their meat, pelt, and oil The majority are killed with guns but a small percent are killed with a hakipik. All you see is the '; club'; on line and on the news but this tool isn't used as much as it used to be.
Baby seals are not killed either. The animals can only be legally hunted after it's shed the white fur. At which point it's been abandoned by its mother and is independent.
What you heard is just a rumour to try to give the North Atlantic seal hunt a bad name.
